In the State of New Jersey, the Flu vac has been mandated for all school aged children. This is wrong and unfair! In my opinion, parents rights are being stripped away to support the Pharmaceutical industry. Is there anything one can do to fight the mandate, short of pulling their children out of Public Schools for homeschooling???

Hi, Melanie. If you are asking what are your options as a parent for your child to avoid the flu shot, the state of NJ provides for two different types of exemptions. Religious or medical. If you are asking what NJ parents can do to fight mandates and gain choice, please go to http://www.njvaccinationchoice.org.

I am giving parent vaccine choices seminars in NJ during the next month which are sponsored by the Coalition.

9/4/08 Thu 6-9pm Gillette, NJ at the Long Hill Township Public Library, 917 Valley Road, Gillette
9/10/08 Wed 630-930pm East Windsor, NJ at the Mercer County Library, 138 Hickory Corner Road, East Windsor
10/1/08 Wed 7-10pm Highlands, NJ at the Highlands Community Center, 22 Snug Harbor Ave, Highlands

Click on Calendar of Events to be kept apprised of newly scheduled events. Reegister to vaxRSVP@verizon.net with location and names of participants.

There will also be a vaccine rally in Trenton on September 18. More details on the site.

While you’re navigating the site, you can read the Conscientious Exemption to Vaccination legislation A260/S1071, sign the petition, see which legislators have agreed to sponsor or co-sponsor the bill and you can find out who your legislators are and send them a letter or request a meeting. You can print out a press release and send it to your local paper with your own quote and contact information. You can start your research, research, download files and attachments, read the blog and join the yahoo parent loop which is a great source of support from other parents. You can obtain copies of letters used by other parents.

E-mail me if you have further questions or want to get involved.!

Louise

Yes there is something you can do!
Visit http://njvaccinationchoice.org to view the efforts of the New Jersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice. Join the yahoo group on http://njvaccinationchoice.org/join.html to stay informed about the current mandates, religious and medical exemption information and the status the fight to get a conscientious belief exemption for the state of NJ. Sign the online petition on the site so legislators can see that you support vaccination choice and write a letter to your state legislators stating the same. Also, attend the Raise Your Voice for Vaccination Choice Rally in Trenton on September 18th.

Dear Melanie,
You are correct. The flu vaccine is one of four newly mandated vaccines for children in the state of New Jersey. It is wrong, and it is unfair, I agree. The mandates were passed without sufficient public discussion, and without appropriate involvement and advice from medical authorities. New Jersey now has the highest number of mandated vaccines in the nation in order for children to enter school. New Jersey is also home to many of the vaccine manufacturers.
A group has been started called the New Jersey Coaltion for Vaccination Choice, http://www.njvaccinationchoice.org. I recommend you visit the sight and begin a dialogue with the parents/activists who are fighting for their rights, and for the health of their children. While New Jersey residents wait to see if the bill for philosophical exemption re: vaccinations is passed, there are other options you have, one of which does in fact include homeschooling. That’s the state of affairs we are now faced with in New Jersey, and in other states in the country.
There is no need for a flu vaccine, let alone a mandate for the flu vaccine amongst all children. It definitely appears as if the fight is getting tougher before we might experience a breaking point. Good luck. We need parents like you to stand up and have your voice heard.
